Stride Mega Mystery Gum

Something about this gum gives me a very strong Scooby Doo vibe.

Maybe it's the word "mystery" in the name. Maybe it's the groovy tie-dye colors on the wrapper. Maybe it's the slightly fruity smell. (I am just saying there's no way that Fred was actually into Daphne...wear your ascot with fabulous pride, Fred!)

Each stick of gum is packaged in the standard Stride chewing portion. They have individual wrappers that remind me of bad casino carpeting, circa 1968. And once you actually smell the gum up close, you notice that it is still fruity -- but there's also a little citrus/sugar thing going on. It actually reminds me of the smell of Kraft FunMallows (which are a sort of fruit flavored, pastel colored marshmallow).

But how did it taste?

I think I would rather chew a Scooby Snack. The taste is sort of like orange powered fiber drink mix meets random citric acid meets peach meets I-drank-too-much-last-night-and-this-is-my-offering-to-my-porcelain-god aftertaste. And that's being diplomatic. Additionally, thanks to Stride's incredible flavor longevity, it fails to wane after even half an hour.

I still don't know what it was supposed to taste like, and I don't care to find out. This can remain a Mega Mystery, because above all else it's a Mega Fail.

Hmm...I googled this mystery flavor because I was curious. I'm glad it didn't have a very good review so I won't have to waste my money.

Alice,
This is skip worthy. I DID like the Eternal Melon though.

I liked it! I pin pointed the flavor that I thought it resembled the most: Fruit Stripes Gum. The one you use to eat asa kid and the gum had such a good flavor but it was made so terribly that it just crumbled in your mouth and the flavor literally lasted for about 3 minutes. With the Stride gum, I get the same flavor I loved as a kid, but the flavor actually lasts longer that 3 minutes! haha I love it. It's like a time warp in my mouth. Definitely worth the
.99 cents I paid for it. :)

i wish it would of been all of their flavors all in one pack so you get a differant flavor each time.

Now THAT would have been awesome!
They could have used the same wrapper but with the different flavors inside. that would have been cool.

Shelby is clearly quite passionate about her Stride!

Out of curiosity Shelby, what does the gum taste like to you?
I have noticed everyone I have talked to seems to have a vastly different answer and I was curious what your take on it is.

It's Guaraná. I participated in its flavoring. Figured i'd put all of the questions to rest.
Guaraná, Paullinia cupana (syn. P. crysan, P. sorbilis) is a climbing plant in the maple family, Sapindaceae, native to the Amazon basin and especially common in Brazil. Guarana features large leaves and clusters of flowers, and is best known for its fruit, which is about the size of a coffee bean.
Flavor is also mixed with the flavoring from the fruit Theobroma Cacao. This fruit is where the world gets its chocolate from. The fruit contains a large quantity of seeds the size of quarters. Each seed is coated with a white slimy membrane. This membrane is the part of the fruit that can be eaten immediately once the outer shell of the fruit is opened. It's freaking delicious, unfortunately there isn't much available. So, underneath this membrane is the Cacao seed. During the cocoa powder process. This cacao seed or more widely known as cocoa, is crushed into a fine powder. The raw powder is then taken and mixed with a myriad of different flavors and additives to make the chocolate we buy and eat and love.
But so anyway, yea the flavor in this Mystery gum is taken from the combination of flavors from both of those incredible fruits.

Thanks for posting that!
That was pretty interesting and I never personally would have guessed that's what it is.

The Stride mafia is not going to come after you know for spilling the (kinda Cacao) beans is it?

I'm pretty sure it's Pineapple with a hint of green pine needle flavoring added. Seriously.

OMG ! I just stumbled on what Leeron said about the flavor of the fruit from the cacao pod !
i have eaten that fruit from the cacao seeds many time and it IS tasty.
till i saw his comment... i couldnt put my finger on what this gum flavor reminded me of.
NOW i KNOW ! LOL

Leeron thanks for posting that comment. it definitely tastes like that cacao membrane around the seeds. BUT i would have NEVER guessed it !

Ann: I would love to try that fruit but I have never come across it.

By any chance do you know where I can get a hold of some?

Gigi... dont know what part of the country you are in but if you see ripe cacao pods grab one.
i never saw them in stores... i only got mine from trees in Hawaii.

the fruit is the white membrane that covers the cacao seeds. just pop one in your mouth and pull the membrane off. its fruity and juicy.
be careful not to bite into the seed. it wont taste like chocolate till its dried.

but... the white coating of the membrane is tasty.

i sure miss those cacao pods. LOL

Ann: I am in Southern California.

And that sounds like yet another good reason to visit Hawaii!
